An adopted 53-year-old woman was surprised to discover her real family was always searching for her

Susan Gervaise believed she was adopted her entire life.

53 years later, and almost by accident, the truth was revealed: it turned out that her real family had been searching for her since 1969. Little Susan was taken by her neighbors – they promised her parents that they would take her to Disneyland with their children. As it turned out later, these people intended to take Susan for themselves. After moving to Canada, the girl’s new family moved to another country. New Zealand was the final destination.

When Susan was four years old, she was told she was given up for adoption, and she believed this all her life. The new family also treated the girl’s upbringing very responsibly. She lived in a nice house, got an education, and travelled the world. Susan only became suspicious when she went to renew her passport: there were no records of adoption. Eventually, Susan learned the truth about the “family”. She was stunned by the situation, of course.

It turned out that 53 years of searching didn’t stop her from finding her real parents a few months later. Past events cannot be changed. Although the woman accepted what had happened to her, she did not break off contact with her “foster parents”.
