Sarah Konk, 28, is a Chartered Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. During her time in Haiti, she was able to help so many children, both morally and physically.

She was completely changed by an incident that happened one day. A little girl was brought to the medical center where she worked once. She was 3 months old at the time. Her condition was very serious. The baby had severe hydrocephalus and urgently needed surgery. Nicky was the girl’s name. A woman identified herself as the baby’s aunt and brought her to the hospital.

Everything went well with the baby’s surgery. Nicky’s condition was satisfactory to the doctors. Her recovery was progressing and she was getting ready to be discharged. It turned out, however, that the woman who called herself an aunt was actually the baby’s mother. Her daughter was in the hospital when she disappeared, and no one saw her again. Her phone number was still found by the caring workers of the medical center. She refused to allow them to take the child. Sarah talked to the mother, convinced her to take her daughter, and promised to help financially. Additionally, Nicky’s medical care will always be free.

After some time, Sarah decided to find out about the baby’s condition. Her mother didn’t answer her calls when she called. She was seized by panic. She decided to go straight to the family’s home because she was very concerned about this child. Sarah will never forget what she saw there. As she entered the house, she found the girl lying on the floor among the garbage. Sarah’s worst fears were confirmed: the mother abandoned her child. She did not hesitate to take the girl to the hospital. There was no prediction from the doctors regarding her condition, which was very serious.

Nicky and Sarah fought valiantly, however. The baby has changed so much since I last saw him. Six months later, Sarah took custody of Nicky. A new home was found for the girl after all the paperwork had been completed. Two years have passed since she was born, and she’s very happy. All she needs is a mother with a huge, loving heart.
