Adolescent insecurities about problematic skin, crooked teeth, or excess weight can last a lifetime.

Stephanie Yashimura turned something she was avoided for into something she is now proud of. Additionally, she began earning money from it. When she was 14, she noticed a white spot near her eye. She learned from her doctor that her dark skin would change. One spot was just the beginning. Vitiligo is the name given to this phenomenon.

The absence of skin pigment cells (melanocytes) causes this chronic condition. Less than 2% of the population suffers from it. Stephanie was insecure at first and covered the spots with things to hide them. Her skin had lost 80% of its pigment after six years.

As a result of her unwillingness to put up with such a result, the young girl took extreme measures: to whiten the swarthy areas of her skin. The procedure was successful, but the girl realized she was losing some of her personality as a result. She finally accepted this feature, and in 2020, a makeup artist spotted her by chance. Despite being afraid, the girl decided to take the photo shoot. Stephanie’s pictures were well received by the public, giving her confidence and encouraging her to think about modeling.

Later, she started a blog on Instagram to help others accept themselves. Through my example, I hope people will accept themselves and be happy in the present,” writes the girl.
