In almost 40 years, Jadav Payeng has grown a huge forest all by himself

During natural phenomena, a forest gradually turned into an eroded wasteland.

He saw the injured reptiles in the wasteland. As a result of this incident, action was taken.A river washed away a deserted piece of land, but the trees were not saved. A piece of land became a wasteland. Under erosion, the island gradually collapsed and became more and more unstable every year.As soon as the Indian government launched its reforestation program in 1980, Jadav Payeng joined in.It was planned to plant 200 hectares of forest near his native village. In this program, Payeng planted all the years with the participants.

Jadav remained on the island after the state completed its project, planting trees and protecting forests.Bamboo is the most common tree on the island. Several tens of thousands of plants and trees grow on the island. The forest was home to birds, rhinos, and other animals. As soon as this area became inhabited with animals, poachers tried to arrange a hunt, but Payeng informed the authorities and by joint efforts the snares and traps were destroyed. The perpetrators were punished. Until an interesting case, a herd of elephants left the reserve, and the workers of the conservation zone were unable to locate them, this part of the forest was unknown to the authorities.

The staff of the reserve were surprised by the restored flora and fauna when they visited the forest in 2008. Jadav’s achievements were reported to the authorities.Payeng was invited and honored by the University of Conservation Areas in 2012.Upon becoming known to the world, the Indian savior of the forest began to be recognized on the streets. His contribution to the development of protected areas earned him the State Award of India in 2015. An island was named after the Indian activist and a film was made about him.

Currently, the forest covers 550 hectares. Molay (the Indian conservationist’s nickname) was the inspiration for the forest’s name.Among Molay’s immediate plans is to plant a forest on yet another deserted riverbank. This activity does not generate any financial profit for Molay, who lives in an ordinary hut in the same forest with his family. As his only source of income, he raises buffaloes, gets meat and milk from them, sells part of the milk, and eats the rest.
