It’s a tiny island in Japan called Okunoshimma. If it weren’t for the amazing residents known as wild rabbits, nobody would be interested in it. Since there are so many rabbits on the island, it is also known as Rabbit Island.
On Okunoshimma, more than 700 bunnies roam free and mingle with people. It is fascinating to learn about rabbit evolution over such a long period of time.
The island was originally inhabited by three fisherman families, but a factory was built there in 1940. While a campaign against these plants began, the Japanese government attempted to conceal their existence.
Rabbits on the island can now be explained by two ideas. The first postulates that they were used as laboratory animals. According to the second hypothesis, eight rabbits came here on a school trip with teenagers and multiplied in a comfortable environment. Do you lean toward favoring one version over the other?
