At the age of 103, Kirk Douglas donated most of his estimated $61 million fortune to charity.

According to The Mirror, The Douglas Foundation plans to donate $50 million to St. Lawrence College (Douglas’ alma mater), Sinai Temple in Westwood, the Kirk Douglas Theater, and Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.

A foundation’s mission is to help those who cannot help themselves, according to its website. Having grown up in poverty, Douglas was the son of Jewish immigrants. He donated to many schools, hospitals, and charities as a result. Among them are his old high school in Amsterdam, New York, and movements in Southern California and Jerusalem. Although it is unknown what will happen to the remainder of his fortune, it is rumored that his son Michael, who is also a famous actor, will not inherit anything.

Since he has an estimated net worth of $300 million, he doesn’t seem to need the extra money. It was not unexpected for him to donate his fortune to charity as well. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2015, Douglas and his wife stated that their foundation would donate to charity.
