Horace Burgess, the local priest who built this church for more than 20 years, was inspired by the Lord himself and sent providence to accomplish the task. A couple of decades of constant work have resulted in a house of 1300 m2, with 80 rooms located on 10 floors.During 1993, Horace decided to construct a shelter to provide shelter to anyone. In the forest, Burgess began his life’s work in a beautiful location. However, no one believed this idea would succeed. Wood, nails, a hammer, and a wish were all the priest had. Incredibly, the man did everything himself, without the help of architects, designers, or builders.
A project was conceived, drawn, and implemented by him.Initially, old shed boards, construction debris, and abandoned houses were used. Eventually, local residents helped Horace with the material. This house is huge, not only does it have rooms, but it also has a basketball court and a church. There is a penthouse on the top floor for the priest’s wife. The house’s plan is complex and intricate in general. There are many rooms, stairs, corridors, internal terraces, and open balconies in the house. Also, as in a medieval castle, there are many hidden passages and secret rooms that only the master is aware of. A living white oak 25 meters high supports the house. It was impossible for those who spent a long time in the tree house to forget what they saw. The building’s size and beauty were so striking to them.
Parishioners and tourists from all over the world visited the house until 2012. After the fire inspection, access to the area was prohibited. Eventually, the house became empty and deteriorated. It is not uncommon for vandals and those who want to leave their mark on the walls of the famous house to visit there from time to time. No matter what happens, Horace Burgess, 66, continues to live in his creation and be proud of it.
