The Chinese teenager returned to his parents after being kidnapped at the age of 3 more than 16 years ago

More than 16 years after he was kidnapped at the age of three, another Chinese teenager was reunited with his biological parents.

Unidentified men kidnapped a child from home and sold it to a childless couple nearly 2,000 kilometers away. A nationwide DNA database helped locate the kidnapped young man. A young man and his parents met in a village in Yunnan’s Daguan urban district. For 16 years, the biological mother of the kidnapped young man said, her family did not give up hope of finding him.

In Fujian province, the young man was raised by a foster family. In 2016, the mother informed the young man that he had been adopted after losing his father. To establish biological parents, the young man donated blood to a nationwide database. The relatives of the kidnapped were notified a year later of the discovery of the young man.

In response to reporters’ questions, the young man said he would spend the holidays with his biological parents in Yunnan. Then he would return to Fujian to care for his foster mother. Over 20 years ago, law enforcement officials from Hebei province managed to locate the parents of six children who were kidnapped. DNA tests have helped police locate 23 kidnapped Chinese citizens’ relatives since 2015.
