The 55-year-old wildlife photographer Lassin Rautiainn captured a rare pair of friends in the forests of northern Finland: a juvenile male bear and a she-wolf. According to the photographer, the creatures were regularly seen together and showed no signs of aggression.

Several times, they shared a deer-shaped dinner. Due to their diametrical opposition, bears and wolves cannot get along.

Lassin monitored the pair for 10 days. Despite the fact that he doesn’t know why they are so friendly, he believes it began when they were both very young, and that collaborative feeding helped them survive.

In Europe, Lassin is not aware of any other incidents of this kind. Zoos sometimes have cubs of different species befriend one another. Despite the fact that this phenomenon hasn’t been observed in the wild, there are always exceptions to the rule.

Animals are often unconcerned about looks or even species when it comes to friendship. It is also something that people need to learn.
