Sri Lanka’s Department of Wildlife Conservation established the Pinnawala Elephant Sanctuary. The sanctuary recently welcomed twin elephant cubs born to a beautiful female elephant. In good health, the newborns were exact replicas of their mothers. Even the reserve’s caretakers took care of the cubs and their mother. Visitor to the orphanage were delighted by the cubs’ sweet gestures.
A small pond filled with water surrounded the mother and two brothers. It was a natural maternal instinct for the mother elephant to keep her babies close to her.
With their mother, the twin elephant cubs grazed on the grass in their enclosure and enjoyed the beautiful sunny day. Their antics captivated visitors. Grazing was still a learning process for the adorable creatures.
She was trying to teach her babies something new and enjoy bathing in the sand. I enjoyed watching the babies copy their mother’s every move, however. Babies drank water if their mother drank. Babies drank water if their mother drank. Several visitors were even allowed to take pictures with the gentle mother elephant.
Soon, the two elephants were playing with each other and with their kind caretaker. The elephants went to a nearby water source to bathe as other members of the herd joined them.
