The German Shepherd Spent 11 Hours Swimming To Save His Owner

The 63-year-old owner Heidi is an avid fisherman. Heidi usually accompanied him when he set sail on his four-meter boat. One night, in early February, they were on a night fishing trip when disaster struck: the boat’s engine suddenly stopped and the waves turned it over. Both of them ended up in the water. Heidi was swept away by the current as the man held on to the board and remained afloat. Trying to swim to shore, the dog desperately struggled against the waves.

As they were quite far out at sea and the current was very strong, Heidi took 11 hours to reach land. The dog reached shallow water around 6 am, where an early fisherman spotted it. Although the dog was clearly tired, he noticed that it was restless, barking and trying to jump into the water again. The coast guard tracked down the sheepdog immediately after the man called. There was no doubt that a disaster had occurred when the boat washed ashore along with a box of fishing tackle and a wetsuit.

A helicopter and four Coast Guard boats participated in the search. They took the dog with them. Schloss, who was still clinging to the boat, was found by rescuers four hours after the boat overturned.

They were taken to the hospital, but did not require medical attention.Police noted the shepherd’s extraordinary physical endurance and ardent desire to help his owner. Due to the cold water, Lance may not have waited for rescue if Heidi hadn’t been there. Please share this with your friends and family if you found it interesting.
