HSI India’s office was the perfect spot for a sick street dog to take a nap when she wandered in. At first, busy staff failed to notice her curled up on a chair, but as soon as they did, they realized she was in grave danger. She was immediately given food and water, but she fled when she was startled. She slept on the couch again when she returned to the office. It was ensured that the door would not be able to be opened a second time by the staff.

When Alokparna Sengupta picked her up for the doctor, her skin was peeling off. She was and is an angel. I don’t have any complaints or stress. She knew she was in the right place because fate brought her there. “In addition to receiving medical care and attention, Fairy was given a name. Her patience and happiness have been admirable,” Sengupta said. “She immediately trusted the volunteers after the second day at the boarding kennel and patiently had a bath every week after that. Once she recovered, we realized what a friendly and happy dog she was In addition to their Street Dog Welfare Program and program to free dogs trapped in dog meat trades, HSI has an ongoing initiative to help stray and helpless dogs around the world.

A family interested in adopting Fairy adopted her after she spent three months at the shelter. She spent another three months recovering before returning home with her new family.

Whatever the reason, she ended up in exactly the right place for help, whether by fate, chance, or Fairy’s cleverness. She has undergone a remarkable transformation and is living a remarkable life now.
