Earlier This Year, A Sign Language Teacher With Hearing Problems Adopted A Deaf Puppy

As Ardi lost his hearing, his family was unable to care for him and had to surrender him to a shelter.

A sign language teacher who had lost his hearing found the dog’s perfect owner right away, and the dog soon left the shelter, moving into his new home. It was not Andrew Wilson’s intention to bring a dog home that day.

The only thing he planned to do was look at the animals and, perhaps, choose a dog to keep as a pet. In the end, however, the concept proved to be a little too popular. Ardi welcomed me warmly within his enclosure. Patting him, he came up to me and barked quietly, almost imploring me to pick him up.

Andrew continued. Ardi was officially adopted by the man shortly after he informed shelter employees that he was taking her home. Although caring for a deaf dog is challenging, Andrew is qualified for the job.

Appa, the dog he has named, is learning sign language well under his guidance. “Appa already understands a few words in sign language and learns new ones rapidly,” Andrew notes.
