Kuno, a Belgian Malinois, served with special forces in Afghanistan.

During the operation, the dog assisted the British military in every way and even saved one of their lives. The government of the country awarded the hero dog for his bravery. In Great Britain, the Victoria Cross is the highest military award. This award recognizes combat heroism.

In 2019, extremists attacked a special forces unit in Afghanistan near the dog. It was impossible for the British military to advance because it was surrounded. The shooter was knocked down by Kuno, who is trained to incapacitate enemies. His squad completed the mission successfully as a result.

Sadly, the heroic dog was wounded in the hind legs. He was flown back to base by helicopter with the assistance of his mentor and medics. After suffering many injuries, the dog was flown to the UK on a Royal Air Force plane. Fortunately, veterinarians were able to save the dog’s life. In order to prevent the infection from spreading, they had to amputate his hind leg.

A prosthesis was fitted to Kuno after he underwent a course of treatment to replace a missing paw and to help an injured leg. According to the British Defense Secretary, Kuno changed the course of the entire expedition and saved British lives. In recognition of Kuno’s animal combat prowess, PDSA awarded him the Dickin Medal.
