Helen Woodward Animal Welfare Center (HWAC) in California received a tiny sphinx a few days ago.

It was reported by Cleopatra’s owners that his mother failed to feed the cubs, so all but one died from starvation. In an attempt to save the baby, HWAC staff attempted to bottle-feed him, but understood that his only chance for survival lay with her.

Six days later, Bellarina, who had been transferred to HWAC from another shelter, became interested in the kitten. In addition to Bean, Biscuit, and Bunny, Bellarina already had three kittens. Despite her mother’s rejection, she happily accepted Cleopatra.

Taking care of the abandoned baby as if she was her own, the cat fell in love with her. “Bellarina gave Cleo the love she lacked so much, as well as breast milk,” Erin Schmitt, head of the HWAC, says.

Cleopatra’s foster mother took good care of her, transforming her from a half-dead bald kitten into an active and cheerful one.

The family will begin looking for a permanent home once Cleopatra’s health has been checked and she has been neutered by the veterinarians.
