Among the big wild cats, the Amur or Siberian tigers are the most critically endangered. The wild population is only 500. The Amur tiger is primarily found in the Russian Far East and northeast China.

Reservation organizations and zoos play an important role in repopulating this species. The Minnesota Zoo announced on June 9 that its Amur tiger gave birth to three cubs. Though one cub died soon after, the zoo was still celebrating because even one cub is very important for our planet.

There are two cubs, a male and a female. Their father, Putin, passed away in March. However, their mother named Sundari (short for Duri) is a very attentive mother. Taking good care of her cubs, she feeds them by the hour, grooms them, and keeps them close to her. However, this is the second triplet born at Roosevelt Park Zoo this year, as three other Amur or Siberian tigers were born earlier this year.
