The forester Stepan heard a noise under the fence and, coming out of his hut, saw an emaciated wolf. It was unusually cold in winter, so animals had difficulty finding food in the forest, so he brought her frozen meat.
There was something unusual about the beast’s behavior. They live among predators. Unless they are starving, they rarely approach people. Locals scolded the forester after the wolf started coming for food more often. Everyone was afraid of forest beasts. Stepan continued to feed the animal despite their objections. If a wolf is hungry in winter, it becomes more dangerous for the village.
The wolf’s visits stopped after a while. All but Stepan were delighted. He was used to having guests and even a little bored. Two months later, the forester heard a familiar howl outside the window. A man rushed into the yard and saw that the wolf was accompanied by two other younger members of the pack. As they stared at Stepan, the animals remained silent.
She realized that the wolf probably fed the young cubs with the meat he had given her all winter. Now the whole pack was moving to a new home. The wolf came to say goodbye to Stepan. Since then, no wolves have been spotted in the area.
