As with The Pursuit of Happiness and Seven Pounds, I Am Legend may have helped Will Smith establish himself as a serious actor in the mid- to late 2000s, but we all know who the real star of the end-of-the-world superhero movie is.

Will’s character Robert Nevile’s interactions with the puppy that his daughter gave him were the most touching in the film. Before you turn in at night, remember that Sam’s real-life story is considerably happier, so keep that in mind.

Despite the movie being released more than 10 years ago, Abby, the dog that portrays Sam, is still alive and well. Her trainer’s family still takes care of her, which is the best part.

Steve Berens told LAbible that his 13-year-old dog is enjoying retirement with his daughter and children. Due to her age, she doesn’t hear much now, he explained. However, she still enjoys playing with the ball. Have you seen the film?
