The volunteer foster families of animal welfare associations do a remarkable job. Their patience and kindness help many felines regain confidence in themselves and in humans. With them, potatoes were transformed.
Ashley’s Kitten Academy in Washington in the United States received a female kitten named Potato. She was born on the street and raised by a wild mother. She had associated humans with a threat even though she was still very young. The mother was also taken care of, but only for a short period of time so that she could be sterilized and vaccinated. Her natural environment was then reintroduced to her. However, Potato was socialized with the goal of living a comfortable life in a loving home. In her own home, Ashley Morrison, the founder of the shelter, provided a calm and soothing environment for her protege. In addition, she took her to the vet for a checkup. Once Potato’s upper respiratory infection was cured, he was able to begin integrating.
She felt lost in this new environment. As soon as Ashley entered the room, she hissed and cowered in a corner, hoping not to be touched. His Good Samaritan gave him a bath to clean his coat soiled by his former life as a stray. Despite all odds, Potato is enjoying the newfound attention it’s been receiving. Ashley told Love Meow that Potato began asking for human interaction after only one day. Day by day, the young lady was making progress. In no time, she mastered the use of the litter box and enjoyed the delicious meals prepared with love by her benefactor. Later, she met Thelma and Bonnie, two young specimens in Ashley’s care who helped her socialize.
Potato loved living with congeners. «She is so happy with her new playmates,» Ashley said. The former wild kitten now shares her foster family’s bed and purrs in delight at being cuddled. In addition to enjoying the life of an indoor cat, Potato will soon be available for adoption.
