In order to rescue stray pets, an Army veteran learned to fly, financed $65,000 for an aircraft, and then began to rescue animals that were about to be euthanized. 45-year-old Peter Steklenski is an animal lover who wants to do something to protect them.
Currently, Paul is focusing his efforts on helping orphans. A few years ago, Tessa was rescued from a local animal shelter by a kind man. As he saw so many innocent beings about to be euthanized, he vowed to provide as many dogs and cats as he could. Flying Fur Animal Sanctuary was founded by the soldier in May 2015 as a rescue organization dedicated to saving “living creatures, one recovery flight at a time.”.
Since then, he has rescued over 1,500 creatures from organizations across the U. S. At first, I considered quitting since I wasn’t sure it would work for me,” Paul said. The sanctuary pets were distressing to see. The thought of so many creatures being imprisoned in one area and eventually placed to sleep broke my heart.
Seeing those creatures in pain makes Paul sad, but seeing them happy makes him feel alive. Although it’s a highly emotional job, it’s extremely fulfilling,” said the Army veteran. It made sense to me to pick them up, transport them to other shelters, and help make a difference by going down there.
