Five small, fluffy lumps were discovered by a farmer in the spring of the previous year. At first, he thought the kittens had been abandoned by a pregnant cat.

When he got closer, he realized that the foxes had just been born. Their mother was not present, and they appeared to be around two days old. The farmer’s daughter, Gemma, was concerned about the foxes, but decided not to approach them. She decided to wait for the foxes’ mother to return.

A day later, nothing has changed. The fox mother never appeared. The family chose to house the red-haired foundlings in a special facility. When they reach maturity, they will also be returned to their natural habitat. However, the outcome was very different. Five days later, a fox cub saw Gemma when it opened its eyes.

The first few days of a fox’s or dog’s life are known as the imprinting period, during which the cub remembers what it first sees. Despite Gemma’s love and affection for the little red-haired crumb, she kept it to herself.
