Sarah Scott and Justin Scott work in an ambulance in California. A man in desperate need of help called them one day while they were on duty.

Justin’s best friend turned out to be this person. Despite going to the call immediately, the man was unable to save his friend. In the aftermath of the death of a friend, Justin blamed himself for not saving him. Over time, he began to sink into depression and realized he needed help. Taking home a dog that could heal the man’s mental wounds and return him to normal was decided.

After talking with a hundred dogs at the local shelters, Justin and Sarah stumbled upon Shelby, a short-legged mongrel, in the parking lot. Justin realized he had found a true friend when the funny dog looked at him. Justin recalls looking her straight in the eyes and saying, “I saved you, now you save me.” I was rescued from the depths of hell by her.”

As a result, Shelby has become a very important part of the family from that day on. Shelby was taken camping in the mountains with the family. Shelby, however, ran into the forest as soon as the travelers arrived at the place and was frightened of something. He went in search of a pet until she got into trouble. He wandered through the forest until the very night, calling out the dog’s name, but was forced to return to the camp.

In the hope of luring the “lost”, Justin set up traps with food at night. Shelby never returned, however. There was no sign of the dog. Justin searched for a pet for 13 days without finding a single lead. Even if she was alive, he didn’t know. Justin wrote on Facebook, “Shelby, you were always there to save me from trouble. You’ll be back with us soon! We won’t give up! It was my pleasure to save you once, and I will do it again.” The couple turned to a non-profit organization dedicated to searching for missing animals after returning home. Babs Fry, its leader, personally searched for Shelby by car, sent out orientations and interviewed locals touched by Justin’s story. Here’s the call: Shelby was very close to the house when someone noticed her.

Babs rushed to check the traps, and found a dog inside! Only a little emaciated and dirty, the mongrel was whole and healthy. The “lost” was soon returned home. No one was able to hold back their tears during the long-awaited meeting. The family searched for their pet for 28 days, and now they could not let her go. Shelby is doing well now. Justin never tires of thanking fate for sending him his beloved dog – and for returning her again when there was almost no hope left.
